The Directors

Please note that the Young Vic Directors Program is open to all directors at an early stage of their career. The only criteria for joining is that they consider themselves professional directors, are not in full time education and are resident in the UK. It is important that when using this list detailed references are taken up as presence on this list is not in itself a recommendation.

background: I work professionally as a freelance arts and theatre facilitator, with a wealth of experience in the education and community sectors.
I have devised and directed work with non professional actors aged 7 - 72, consulted with companies and schools regarding positive applications of drama and I have considerable experience working with people with learning and communication difficulties and English as an additional language.

I have worked with a wide variety of companies and individuals and enjoy collaborative processes in theatre-making and art-doing. Much of my work has a very visual, tactile quality and is performed outdoors on parades or in the street. I wish to make work which is bold and spectacular but intimate and personal to all who witness and enjoy it.

My original training was at The University of Hull for a BA in Drama. I also gained an MA in Visual Theatre from Wimbledon School of Art in 2005. I have since undertaken informal training in Makaton sign assisted language, stiltwalking, carnival arts, creative pedagogy and am a registered Arts Award Advisor to young people.

My most recent project was a collaboration with Oulu city theatre, Finland, where I directed the production 'beginning' - a visual theatre piece for 11-15 year olds which is touring across Europe this summer

After finishing my course i co-directed a site specific show based on racism, which was created through workshops. I then participated in the Stone Crabs young directors program which resulted in directing a show in the studio theatre at the Albany. background: I am a young director with experience of directing and assistant directing theatrical productions and working in the film industry, my latest production being a short new writing piece by acclaimed young playwright Kieran Lynn at Off Cut Festival, which was performed at Riverside Studios. I had gone through a rigorous selection process to be awarded a directors position in the festival.

I am particularly passionate about new writing that gives actors the opportunity to be very physical and explore a range of emotions through intelligent storytelling. I also like working with text set in historical settings - such as 'The Crucible',which was my first directorial production - as I studied political, social and legal history at Cardiff University.

I am also passionate about film and work full time as an Assistant to a film producer. I have worked as an intern at Origin Pictures - David M Thompson's production company - as well as on a regular freelance basis with Blink Productions. I also work on set and have taken on roles of 2nd Assistant Director and Runner.

My directorial debut film 'The Death of a Mime' is currently in pre-production and set to shoot this Spring.

background: Antonia has trained both in Fine Art (Goldsmith's College, London) and in Acting (Teatr Pieśń Kozła, Poland).

She has performed in London and internationally with the devising company Mkultra, written and directed two short films (including the short film Paragon screened at Edinburgh International Film Festival), and written a feature-length film.

In 2003 Antonia met and formed a close collaboration with the Greek actress Maria Savvidou, a core member of the National Theatre of Greece. She was invited to observe rehearsals and subsequently did so on many occasions over a period of three years. The quality of the work of this company and the approach of director Stathis Livathinos (who had studied under Lev Dodin), became an unforgettable reference point.

Antonia has been directing productions, teaching workshops and coaching actors privately for six years with techniques significantly informed by this experience as well as by the physical and musical theatre training of Teatr Pieśń Kozła (Song of the Goat Theatre).

Her theatre directing credits include Alcestis; The Proposal; The Lonesome West (Critics Choice, Time Out); The Cherry Orchard and A Skull in Connemara (4 stars What’s On).

background: I run the company Two Gents Productions together with actors Denton Chikura and Tonderai Munyevu (www.twogentsproductions.com) - over the past five years we have developed cross cultural, township theatre inspired two man theatre productions based on classic text as well as on devised work. We most recently toured to Australia (4 weeks) and to Italy (1 week in Milan) through UK Arts International.
